Sterilab and Supply Chain Continuity

There have been ongoing issues with the supply chains of goods and services across the board, particularly in relation to the supply of laboratory consumables - both those used directly in COVID testing as well as any laboratory tests using molecular amplification technologies such as PCR, next generation sequencing etc. These were first reported during the onset of COVID-19, as normal shipping routes were impacted, and were compounded as demand exploded, and further impacted by the requirements for MHRA registration arising from the Brexit withdrawal process. It has been a testing period for many to navigate.

 Before and during the pandemic, Sterilab has worked continually to ensure a smooth supply of equipment, from test strips and analysers to swabs and filter tips for customers, and we continue to provide reliable and consistent delivery and customer care service.

The worldwide issues faced by manufacturers, including soaring raw material costs, new UKCA marking regulatory compliance requirements and new shipping disruptions provide an ongoing challenge.

Sterilab is meeting the challenge by ensuring we have a good communication channel with both our direct suppliers and upstream supply chain, as well as our vital customers, to balance supply and demand and provide timely advice to all stakeholders. We have invested significantly in increased UK stock holding, with our new sate of the art distribution warehouse allowing us to more than triple our UK storage capacity. We have invested in in-house regulatory expertise and are continualy developing our professional business management system to help understand and mitigate risks from potential business interuptions and applying our business continuity management plan.

We have worked very closely with suppliers to identify any potential kinks in the chain, before they happen. We know how critical it is to maintain a reliable supply of quality products on time and all of our suppliers are both ISO accredited and audited.

Although we are still very much operating in uncertain times, we have always managed to keep our NHS, public heath, research and government customers in good supply.
